Museum of Style Icons

Last Friday I took a trip to Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre with my parents. My mother is a big fan of Newbridge silverware, after buying it bit by bit she now has a gorgeous Celtic pattern set of cutlery in a beautiful lined wooden box that only comes out for special occasions.

I've wanted to visit their recently Museum of Style Icons for a while. They have acquired a wide collection of costumes, clothing, props and accessories from various stars of film, television and music. I took some photos with my baby Samsung camera so the quality isn't great but for anyone interested in film or vintage clothing it is a real treat and I just wanted to share it with you!

I was so excited to see the Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly dresses, unfortunately one of the dresses I really wanted to see (Grace Kelly's dress worn in High Society) was on loan to another museum.

I don't know about you but this is definitely the kind of museum for me! Newbridge Silverware have also designed collections of jewellery pieces inspired by those worn by Grace Kelly and Maureen O'Hara. The pieces are stunning and so reasonably priced. I really want to get the pearl drop earrings from the Grace Kelly collection.

I picked up some Celtic patterned stainless steel pastry forks for Kate while I was there and my mam got me two steak knives and table forks. It's hard to get excited about cutlery but when they're this gorgeous it's easy!

We stopped off in my aunt and uncle's house on the way home and were made a gorgeous dinner and I got to see my two cousins who I don't see that often so that was really nice!

So what do you think, would you be interested in visiting this museum?

Emma x

  1. Yes indeed, Emma. I'd be interested in visiting that museum. As a vintage film buff I would surely get a contact high just being in the same room with garments originally worn by the stars of motion pictures, television and pop music. My favorite color is green and I was instantly drawn to Tippi's suit from The Birds and the dress Grace Kelly wore to Ireland. That Jeannie lamp is gorgeous, too! Thanks for the tour, dear friend!

  2. What a lovely post. I love places like this but unfortunately where I live they are few and far between. I must say my stand out pieces are the Pinl Givenchy dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's and also Diane's revenge dress so powerful!

  4. For some reason I keep forgetting about this place but it looks amazing - love your pics Emma! Were the dresses tiny? I don't trust that 'Marilyn was a size 16' rumour no matter how much I want to!

    1. Yeah, you should definitely check it out if you feel like taking a trip to Newbridge! I was totally expecting the dresses to be teenie tiny but they weren't as small as I thought they'd be, even Audrey Hepburn's ones. The Marilyn dress was labelled as a size 10 but I'm not sure if that's UK or a US 14. Either way, she was gorgeous! Isn't the pink colour of the dress amazing?!

  9. I'm going to this museum as a 16th birthday present, because I adore Audrey Hepburn! I'm so exited, but also worried that some of her pieces will have been loaned to another museum.... but you saw the whole collection which is putting my mind at rest :) Henry xx
