Underneath The Power Lines Seeking Shade

I don't tend to buy into many trends as I find it's not very cost effective and I prefer to invest in pieces I know will last from season to season. However the metallic pleated skirt trend that's been around for the past few seasons is one I knew straight away I wanted to try out. I'm a big fan of skirts in general and although pleats can be unflattering, I wanted to try it myself so I got this very inexpensive one from Zara a few weeks ago.

I wanted to dress the skirt down and I love how these skirts look with oversized knitwear so I thought this burgundy jumper from H&M would be perfect with the gunmetal colour of the skirt. The weather is starting to get cold so I brought my Archive by Alexa trench coat out again and I've been wearing it non stop for the past couple of weeks. I'm already excited for the new Archive by Alexa collection that's launching in early November.

Patent shoes are another trend I've been loving, I got these ASOS boots last year and I'm so glad I did because I wear them so much in the colder weather when I need to look a bit dressier. I'm on the lookout for another pair with a higher heel, I have my eye on these ones from New Look.

My Bespoke Stella and Dot necklace has barely come off my neck too, every time I wear it someone compliments it. I'm looking forward to getting another piece from their Bespoke collection and perhaps some Christmas presents too as I think they make gorgeous gifts.

I'm wearing one of the new Armani Lip Magnets on my lips and I'm crazy about the shade and formula. I attended a masterclass by one of the Armani makeup artists a couple of weeks ago and I've been trying out a few of their new products. So keep an eye out for lots of exciting beauty reviews in the coming weeks.

What trends have you bought into for Autumn? What's on your Winter wishlist?

A Des Reflets D'Argent

The Summer is sadly over for another year. We've been lucky in Ireland to have had relatively good weather for September but before I get my woollies out I wanted to share some photos we took while we were away in the south of France at the beginning of the month.

We stayed in a beautiful little town called Beaulieu-sur-Mer close to Nice. I hadn't planned on taking outfit photos (mostly because it was so hot I didn't think it would be a pleasant sight) but the scenery was so beautiful I couldn't resist, so on our last day we went to the waterfront at the hottest time of day and I tried to not look like a sweating mess.

I loved this Zara skirt when I saw it at the start of the Summer, I managed to pick it up on sale and it's served me well over the past few months. It was the perfect statement piece to bring on holiday because of the light cotton fabric, I'll definitely be bringing it back out next Summer.

I got these Quay Australia sunglasses in TK Maxx and I've worn them all Summer. They're really great quality and look amazing with a simple outfit. I'm eyeing up a few things on the Quay website, they have some gorgeous cat eye styles.

The necklace is from the Stella and Dot Bespoke collection which launched a few months ago. I'm so obsessed with it, I've been wearing it almost every day since I got it. I've gotten so many compliments on it too. It's one of the few items of jewellery I brought away with me. I had it personalised in a circular font with my initials. There are cuffs, necklaces, a ring and cufflinks in the Bespoke collection that can be personalised with letters or numbers in different fonts. I love this collection, the pieces make for great gifts with a personal touch. I'm already planning on getting the signet ring for myself. I know people who have gotten their children initials/ birthdays and even the co-ordinates to their house on their Bespoke pieces. The quality is amazing and they come packaged beautifully, if you're looking for a special gift for someone, I'd recommend checking this collection out.

I can safely say this is my last Summer outfit of 2016 but I'm excited about dressing for Autumn, I have a wishlist I'll be sharing soon. What's on your Autumn shopping list?

The First Faint Noise Of Gently Moving Water

This day six years ago I decided on a whim to start Ol' Green Eyes. I could never have imagined how my life would change during those six years. It's unbelievable how many opportunities this blog has afforded me and how many wonderful people I've met a lot of whom I now count as friends. Although it may not seem like a lot to some, this little blog is one of the things I am most proud of in my life. The countless hours spent reading, writing, editing, taking photographs, trying out products, researching and attending events all for the love of keeping this blog going for the simple fact that I love it.

What better way to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the blog than with a set of outfit photos, one of my favourite kinds of posts to put together. I was so lucky to be off work this week for one of the best stretches of good weather we've had in Ireland in a long time. We went to Sandycove beach and Dun Laoghaire yesterday and when I saw this wall which I've passed by and admired many times, I thought it would be the perfect backdrop to photograph my new red dress.

I bought the Archive by Alexa Misty Dress a few weeks ago after continuously eyeing it up since the collection launched. I finally caved and I'm so glad I did because it fits beautifully and I adore the colour and print. It's such a gorgeous Summer dress and I'll definitely be taking it on holiday with me because the fabric is great in the hot weather. I wanted to dress it down for daytime so I wore it with my oversized New Look denim jacket and my new Topshop Cyprus trainers (which are so comfortable!).

I've had the bag and sunglasses for years. I got the sunglasses for less than $2 on eBay and I've had more compliments on them than any of my other sunglasses. I got this binoculars bag from a vintage seller on Etsy and I bring it out every Summer. It's amazing quality and surprisingly roomy.

Lastly I'm wearing one of my favourite lipsticks Strawberry Suede by Revlon as it matches the dress perfectly. It's one of their matte finish lipsticks and is heartbreakingly discontinued. So if anyone from Revlon happens to be reading this, please for the love of God bring back Strawberry Suede!

It's fitting that the backdrop of these photos features a wall in Dun Laoghaire with a quote from 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man' by James Joyce as Bloomsday Festival is coming up in a couple of weeks, it's always great seeing everyone dressed up in their turn of the century costumes.

I just wanted to finish by saying a huge thank you to all of my readers. Those of you who are new to it and those who have been with me since the beginning. You'll never know how much it means to me that you choose to visit my blog and read my words. Here's hoping I'll be here another six years from now!

Well I Almost Forgot It Was Twilight

I've mostly been dressing for comfort and warmth recently, which has meant a lot of cosy jumpers and layers. I contemplated buying this H&M jumper for ages and when I saw it on Emma, it sealed the deal. It's so cosy and warm, although I do have to wear a long sleeved top underneath because it's a bit scratchy on my skin.

Necklace- Zara
Brooch- Vintage, gift
Lipstick- Topshop Matte Lip Bullet Get Me Bodied

She's wearing pants! Why yes I am. I've been wearing them a lot lately because they are so damn comfortable and I love the embossed texture too, it makes them a little more interesting.

I wanted this Zara necklace for a long time and convinced myself I wasn't going to get it, that was until it went on sale and I could no longer justify not buying it, you know how it is! The boots were a 'Black Friday' purchase from Topshop, they need a tiny bit of wearing in to loosen them up but once you do they are so comfortable, I can even get away with wearing them in work when I'm on my feet for hours. I love how chunky they are even though my sister says they remind her of these ones.

This brooch is a special one because my granny gave it to me recently. An ex-boyfriend gave it to her in the early 1950s so it's proper vintage. I love the coloured stones, the photo really does not do it justice.

I finally decided to try some Topshop make up after much time spend browsing the stands. I had read about the Matte Lip Bullets and decided to try one out. Get Me Bodied is the ultimate Winter deep berry shade. I'm not so crazy about the packaging, especially for the price but it more than makes up for it in other ways, I really love the formula, colour and lasting power of it.

How is your January going so far? I'm too obsessed with my niece to notice the horrible cold and dullness that January normally brings.

No Straws To Grab Just The Rushing Wind

We took these photos when we were out for a walk during a rare sunny spell at the weekend. You ask for sun in Ireland and you get disgustingly humid and windy horribleness with your sun. I actually can't wait for Autumn now. We're never happy, but that's because we get four seasons in one day as the song goes. At least it wasn't raining!

I wanted this bag from Zara for about 6 months and could never justify spending the money on it until I did some overtime in work and had a little extra money so after 6 months of looking at it online and in the store every few weeks I treated myself to it last month and I'm so happy I did because I love it! It's huge and goes with everything and is so lovely and I just love it AND I saw on tumblr still of Rachel McAdams wearing it in her new film! Okay enough about the bag... I've been mixing silver and gold together a lot lately. I love how they look together.

I feel like I've been wearing a lot of black this summer which is very sad. Hopefully my next outfit post will be of a pretty summery dress!
