The City I Walk In Feels Like It Swallows

I apologise for my lack of posting this week. To be perfectly honest, I've had a tough week emotionally. One of our nieghbours who lives in the apartment building opposite us threw herself from her fourth floor balcony on Monday afternoon. We only realised when Donnacha was going out to the shop and saw her lying on a stretcher. The ambulance crew tried to save her but she died. We saw the police taking photos of the scene and inside her apartment. It was so surreal. I only knew her to see, I didn't actually know her but she was obviously on some sort of drugs because she would stand outside her apartment building some nights shouting to be let in and clearly not in her right mind.

I couldn't stop thinking about it for ages, I just kept imagining how she must have been feeling standing there before she jumped. I can't understand it and I suppose it's hard for me to judge someone who feels that hopeless about their life. I found myself wishing I could do something to help people like her realise that their life is worth something even if they don't think so.

It helped to talk to my mam and dad and the girls in work about it. I find myself looking up at the balcony walking to and from work every day. If this is how I feel, I can't even begin to imagine how it felt to see it happen or for her family and friends. I hope those of you reading this never feel like that woman. Nothing is ever hopeless, we need to realise the affects our lives have on so many people and how they would feel to lose us like that.


Now onto something less serious. My sister and I went to see Warpaint in Crawdaddy in Dublin last night. It was an amazing gig, even the support band were very good. The venue was packed and the crowd were loving the band, singing along to all the songs even though the album isn't technically out yet. The girls seemed lovely, they said how grateful they were to be able to play here and thanked us for our support which I thought was really nice. I have to say I have a girl crush on the entire band! They're all gorgeous girls with great individual styles. Check out the few photos I took below.

I did my eyes using Benefit's Smokey Eye palette. I've only used it once before after getting it as a present last Christmas, but it's really nice to use and turns out very well if you take the time to do it properly

I really like Crawdaddy as a venue because it's so intimate. I've seen Andrew Bird and M Ward here, both amazing gigs. I really hope the girls come back and I'm sure if they do they'll need to play a bigger venue.

I haven't done much else this week. I saw The Social Network on Sunday which was so captivating from start to finish and Despicable Me on Tuesday which was a lot of fun.

You Got Light In Your Eyes

I wanted to show you my eye make up from today, it's green and gold eye shadows, the green is Clarins and the gold is L'oréal. To match my eyes! hehe! You can also see my hair colour more clearly here. What do you think? It's not too different from my actual hair colour which is why I want to go more drastic the next time. I'm excited about it!

I got a lot done during the day today. We cleaned the apartment (it needed to be done badly!), I made dinner and ran some errands and hung out with my sister tonight. Hope you all are having a good weekend so far. It's not over yet!

In today's post I wanted to share with you one of my favourite bloggers, Elsa Billgren. Elsa is from Sweden and works for Beyond Retro, a vintage clothing store with branches in Sweden and the UK and also writes a blog for the Swedish Elle site. I received more fake eyelashes in the post this week. These ones are way better than the other ones I have. They are more tapered so they get longer towards the outer corner of your eyes which gives a gorgeous doe-eyed effect. I took some photos of me wearing them yesterday and I tried to get a better photo of my hair so you could see the colour but it doesn't look much more different indoors so i'll try to take some outdoor photos at the weekend so you can see the colour properly.

Fluorescent and Starry, Some of Them They Surprise

Today I had planned to take some outfit photos during the day but I didn't get a chance, so we took these in a lane near our apartment on the way back from the cinema (we went to see Mr. Nice).

I bought this polka dot dress on Ebay last year and altered it. It's not a great photo of it, I'll get a better one some other time!

I bought this Ruby Slippers scrabble tile pendant from Artyscapes on Etsy

So I dyed my hair tonight! I'll take some photos of it at the Vintage Fashion Fair in Dun Laoghaire tomorrow. It's not quite what I had in mind but I really like it. I already have another colour planned to try out once this one fades.

Mad About Christina

TGIF!!!

I really do love Fridays. I'm so thankful to have a job where I get weekends off. Unfortunately I didn't get to post this week until now, but I have been cathcing up on reading a lot of blogs which was great! I'm planning a couple of longer posts over the weekend, so for now I thought I'd share some photos with you from the November issue of Harper's Bazaar shot by Terry Richardson. The cover is graced by the beautiful Christina Hendricks. Some of you may be tired of seeing her everywhere, but I for one can't get enough! I'm not mad about the cover, I think there could have been better choices judging from the little video of the photoshoot on the Harper's Bazaar site, but who am I to judge really, she still looks beautiful.

Oh and I'm toying with the idea of dying my hair, I don't know why, the idea just came to me the other day. You only live once and I thought it could be fun to mix it up a bit. What do you think?

So I'm Back To The Velvet Underground

I've been neglecting my little bloggy lately, I haven't been posting nearly as much as I'd like to, but I suppose that's the inconvenience of life, sometimes it gets in the way ;)
This week has been very draining for me. I feel like I've been on an emotional rollercoaster, I've been crying a lot for various reasons, several of which were watching Where The Wild Things Are and the final part of This Is England '86, which made me completely break down in tears. I think I cried at some point during all four parts of it, it was rough going, but very worth while. It really was a superb piece of television.

Work hasn't been great either, I find myself becoming increasingly frustrated by my inability to make any difference with how the place is run and saddened by the lack of warmth and compassion exhibited by the management time and time again. Today in our shop we had an event for the Dublin Festival of Fashion with several little fashion shows and other things happening in store. I wasn't asked to take part in any of the events, which I was fine with because it would have meant staying late on a Friday which no one wants to do, but the thing that annoyed me, well not even annoyed me but just made me realise there is no hope for the management in there was a comment from my manager this morning.

We were asked to dress up a bit more glamourously for the day because of the Festival of Fashion so I made a bit more of an effort than normal and when I came in to work this morning my assistant manager said I looked very nice and my dress was lovely on me, she then said to the general manager "isn't Emma's dress lovely on her", to which she replied " I've seen it on her before". Now, believe me, at this stage I was in no way expecting her to comment on what I was wearing of her own initiative because it is just not in her nature to willingly compliment others, unless it is a customer and she is looking to make a sale and even then it is extremely forced and fake. But to give an answer like that just made me feel so sorry for her. To carry around that much pettiness and bitterness towards other people must take up a lot of energy, no wonder all she does all day is sit on her ass in the office or strut around the shop floor in her heels (which I might add she is only able to wear because she is never actually on her feet in the shop). I hate that it did but it put me in a bad mood for the rest of my shift.

I had a long chat with my friend Holly who works in the shop too on Monday about everything that is wrong with the place. It's not like I hate my job because I really don't. I work with really nice girls who I get on very well with. The only problem is the managers. I just have to keep reminding myself that it pays the rent and I do like it for the mostpart and I just have to try and let comments like that roll off my back. I won't let someone like her affect me, I just won't.


My mam and my little brother came over to my apartment on Wednesday night and we (well my mam and I) had a few drinks and we all watched Where The Wild Things Are and then a documentary about Fleetwood Mac, hence the post title. My sister came over after her work placement (she's studying midwifery) and my Dad came over after college (he's studying payroll technician). It was lovely to spend some time with them, my sister and I just started talking about TV and quoting Arrested Development while my Mam and Dad watched and laughed at their weird daughters.

This weekend Donnacha and I are going down to Carlow to see his parents so hopefully I'll get to do a post on Sunday night, maybe take some photos down there. Meanwhile I'll leave you with some photos of what I wore today for work;
