You're Such A Budapest

You're Such a Budapest from OPI is the most recent addition to my nail polish collection. It's from their Spring 2013 Euro Centrale collection and is the prettiest periwinkle blue shade. I'll definitely be wearing this a lot during the Summer.



When I first saw it I thought of the highly popular Essie Bikini So Teeny from last year which I refrained from buying (for myself at least, I got it for my sister instead). I really love OPI polishes, this is my third full size (I also have a Minnie Mouse collection set of mini polishes) and the formula is very long lasting on my nails. The only downside is that they are hard to find in Ireland, but I order mine from eBay where you can get them a bit less expensive.

Around The World With Travel Supermarket

After entering the Worldwide Wardrobe Competition, the people from TravelSupermarket got in touch to ask if I would like to collaborate on a post about my dream shopping trip. It was hard to choose just one place. I would love to just jump on a plane to Paris again and shop on the Champs-Élysées or stay in London because I've never been before and go to Oxford Street. But for me, if there was one city I could shop in, I would have to choose New York’s Fifth Avenue. Theodora

When I saw that Urban Decay were releasing two Oz themed palettes, I was so excited to see what they would look like. The Glinda palette is based on Michelle William's make up in the film and consists of paler, more pastel colour. The Theodora palette is based on Mila Kunis' make up and has darker more earthy shades and a red lip colour- right up my street!

Of course I went for the Theodora palette as I knew I would wear all of the colours more than the Glinda palette. What's really great about these palettes is that you get six full sized eye shadows (two of which are duo colours) and you can pop the eye-shadows out of the tin when they are done or if you want to add different colours and buy a single eye shadow to put into the palette instead. I decided to so something a bit different with the palette because any of the blog posts I had seen of this were using the 'Get the Look' card that is included with the palette. I wanted to create a simple look based on this Guide to Grungey Eye Make-up video by Lisa Eldridge that I watched recently just using the Eye Pencil and the Lip Colour. I wanted my skin to look quite fresh and illuminated so I used my new Monu primer and kept rosy, highlighted cheeks with the Estée Lauder cream blush and High Beam. I used a very small amount of powder as Double Wear Light doesn't really need to be powdered anyway. I added the last photo of me wearing the olive/golden colour from the duo Spell eye shadow almost as a liner beneath my eyes just to show the versatility of this palette.

I had been wanting to try the Glide On eye liners for a long time and I wasn't disappointed, they really do glide on and they are so easy to blend. The Super Saturated Lip Colours were another Urban Decay release I had been wanting to try out for a long time. It is so easy to use and feels very comfortable to wear. I love the glossy finish too. I'm definitely going to have to get another one of these. All of the eye shadows are velvety, highly pigmented and easy to work with and blend.

I added everything up and you actually get over €160 worth of products here, whereas I paid €36. I think that's a pretty good deal.

Once again , I'm so impressed with the quality of this Urban Decay palette. They always make great gifts or just a great addition to any make-up collection and such value for money. I can't wait to use it some more!

It's Only Forever, Not Long At All

I'm so excited to share one of my absolute favourite films with you. I don't know when it was that I first saw Labyrinth but I was definitely very young. I couldn't even guess how many times I've watched it, but I know every word of dialogue and the lyrics of every song. 

I'm sure a lot of you have seen it and possibly love it as much as me. It's definitely one of those films that if you  saw it as a kid, you either loved it or were terrified by it. Some of my friends in school and college told me how scared they were by it and looking at it through the eyes of an adult now I can see why, although I never felt that way. I wasn't scared by many films growing up, I'm probably more scared of things now than I was then. The entire concept of the film is pretty terrifying, a young girl (Jennifer Connelly) has baby brother kidnapped by the King of a city of Goblins (David Bowie) and has to battle through a weird and creepy labyrinth to get her brother back. 

If you've watched the film then you'll know that there's this strange fear/fantasy dichotomy between Sarah and the Goblin King. The ballroom scene in particular is something I could never figure out because it's Sarah's dream/fantasy after falling asleep from the effects of the "poisoned " peach, but the Goblin King is the one who gives it to Hoggle to give to her so you have to wonder what influence he has had on her dreams. You don't notice these things when you're an oblivious and innocent child but it's very interesting to watch the film today and dissect it. I am almost certain that if Labyrinth was pitched as a film idea today it would not get made (which I think is the case with a lot of films I watched as a child) and I suppose it's a rather sad thought.  

I adore everything about this film. Jim Henson's creatures are magnificent, the amount of detail that went into the sets and all of the different Goblins is to me so much more impressive than anything that can be computer animated today because the resources were much more limited in the eighties. The performances by Jennifer Connelly who was so young and David Bowie who's casting was ingenious (who would have thought!) are so perfect. Not forgetting Bowie's part in the soundtrack which I still love to listen to now.
